Commercialisation Rights to Bioherbicide for Bathurst Burr
Bathurst burr (Xanthium spinosum) is a widespread and significant weed in grazing and cropping systems in Australia (and globally). It causes significant reductions in crop yields and animal production, adversely impacting wool quality and is expensive to control without causing off-target damage. One way to selectively control the weed is to use a biological (or myco-) herbicide.
Biological herbicide development has suffered from two limitations: a lack of agents that are specifically pathogenic to the weed; and the action of these products is variable under variable climatic situations e.g. in the absence of rain or dew. The Bioherbicide has solved this problem.
