Tender Details
DPI and the Grains Research Development Corporation (GRDC) are joint owners of lucerne germplasm arising from a successful breeding program that has successfully released commercial lucerne varieties exhibiting high yield, persistence and disease and pest resistance.
Following a rationalisation of research priorities, DPI recently decided to cease commercial lucerne breeding operations.
The intent of the EOI is to make available the lucerne germplasm for ongoing breeding purposes and the future commercial release of new productive lucerne varieties with a subsequent financial return to the owners through the payment of an agreed royalty returned based upon future seed sales of the new varieties.
The EOI aims to:
1. Provide an opportunity for the owner’s lucerne germplasm to be used in an on-going breeding program with the aim of producing lucerne varieties suitable for the Australian environment and to provide the owners with a future royalty payment, if the EOI material contributes more than 12.5% or more to the genetics of any new variety.
2. Release selected advanced lucerne lines that are suitable for commercial release with a fee and/or future royalty payment to the owners based on future seed sales.
3. Release of progressed lines that have been selected and evaluated in comparative field trials with a fee and/or future royalty payment to the owners based on future seed
