Crown Lands seeks to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Contractor to maintain the Hume & Hovell Walking Track (H&H) 440km in length, extending from Yass to Albury in NSW.
The maintenance is to be synchronised with and follow on from recommendations provided by an asset documentation and condition assessment (audit) report recently completed for the track. This audit report documents the condition of all infrastructure, facilities & issues along the H&H and specifies requirements for maintenance / repairs / upgrades (capital works). Priority will be given to those sections of the track requiring urgent works as identified by the audit report.
The following tasks are required from the Contractor:
• Maintenance of the H&H including repairs & minor upgrades to the track surface and track infrastructure such as steps, styles, gates, fencing, signage, bridges and campground facilities; clearing vegetation regrowth and fallen timber; weed control; and cleaning and maintaining campgrounds, such as mowing, cleaning toilets & rubbish bins. The duties performed are broadly described as physical manual labour and include extensive amounts of walking (often carrying tools & equipment), picking up rubbish, mowing, chainsaw & brush cutter use, painting, digging, hand tool & equipment operation and maintaining infrastructure;
• Maintain partnerships through liaison as required with all stakeholders involved in the operation and use of the track;
• Report on all track issues and assist with posting notices on existing notice boards / information shelters / signage and in some cases providing the background information necessary for posting on the Crown Lands corporate website and affiliated websites.
The services requested comprise several main tasks outlined below and predominantly include, but are not limited to:
• Vegetation maintenance on relevant sections of track including cutting back regrowth & removal of timbers, including large trees that have fallen onto the track. This will require extensive use of chainsaws and brush cutters;
• Significant weed & occasional feral pest control;
• Step and track surface maintenance, such as removing soil build up; water diverter – rollover clearing & maintenance;
• Maintaining large assets such as bridges, boardwalks & associated infrastructure;
• Minor asset installation, repair & maintenance, such as straightening / repairing damaged styles, signage, information shelters, distance and directional markers & poles; re-painting; replacing missing or damaged components, etc;
• Camp ground maintenance, such as removing rubbish, mowing, whipper snipping & weeding, fireplace maintenance / removal; water tank maintenance; toilet cleaning & maintenance including recommending toilet pit pump out requirements;
• Fence repairs & maintenance;
• Assisting directly and indirectly with a wide range of track-related enquiries from all stakeholders;
• Suggesting locations for installation of track counters; bush fire warning or other signage; or minor asset requirements;
