Tender Details

Between 2013-18, Dr Robert Mensah of the NSW DPI, identified and formulated 3 Plant Botanical extracts that have insect behaviour modifying properties that can be utilized to control pests of agricultural crops. The Plant extracts are effective in the control and management of Helicoverpa spp. and sucking pests such as green mirids, green vegetable bugs and silverleaf whiteflies on cotton crops. The products are novel non-chemical and natural chemical pest control tools that could be used to complement beneficial insect activity against these sucking pests and thus support IPM programs on cotton and other crops. These chemicals may be used to repel, or deter oviposition and/or feeding of the pest species or can directly cause mortalities to adults and larvae/nymphs of these pest species. The application of these plant extracts on agricultural crops (particularly cotton), can change the behaviour of the pest, which then may avoid the host plant or lay fewer eggs, feed less or even die. The Plant botanicals are code-named Plants W, Y and Z.
