NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment intend to undertake maintenance dredging of Navigation Channels at Bermagui River and Bermagui Boat Harbour. The waterway and harbour to be dredged is frequently used by both commercial and recreational vessels. Safe navigation of the waterway is compromised through the on-going accumulation of sand through natural geomorphological processes. Consequently, maintenance dredging has been proposed to remove the accumulated sediment. The works involve two components being (1) dredging of clean marine sand from the river and subsequent placement on Horseshoe Bay Beach and (2) Dredging of Silty/Sand from the Harbour and subsequent dewatering through a hydrocyclone to strategically stockpile sand near the harbour whilst capturing discharged fines in a contained system for disposal to landfill.
