Tender Details
The Theatre Royal was designed by Harry Seidler and was constructed in the 1970s as a replacement for the old theatre of the same name that was demolished when the MLC Centre was built. The theatre has an auditorium capacity of 1,183 seats and is ideally suited to smaller and mid-scale musicals and theatre productions. It is located on King Street in Sydney’s CBD, and is close to Pitt Street Mall, Australia’s busiest retail precinct.
As part of a major renewal of the MLC Centre precinct, in November 2019, the Government entered a 55-year lease for the Theatre with MLC Centre building owner Dexus. Create NSW now seeks to engage a suitably qualified commercial theatre operator to lease, refurbish and operate Sydney’s Theatre Royal.
The purpose of this Request for Tender is to appoint a theatre operator to sub-lease the Theatre from the Government for a period of up to 55-years.
