Tender Details

 

The Museum Precinct, including the redevelopment of Civic Station, has been identified as future public open space in the concept plan, and planning proposal recently gazetted, for the former heavy rail corridor in Newcastle. This open space will expand the existing Museum Lawn area to incorporate the station area, former rail corridor and station forecourt area.

 

The new public open space will form a key open space area within the Civic area of Newcastle. It will also provide a link between these uses and the harbour foreshore with its entertainment, residential and commercial uses.

 

This site is approximately 7,000sqm in area and is bounded by the Newcastle Museum in the north and Hunter Street in the south, the project generally entails the following key items;

1. Refurbishment of Civic Station into a lettable tenancy as well as surrounding landscaping including but not limited to; 

  • Retaining Civic Station and converting the building into a café or similar tenancy (tenancy fit out by others);
  • Deconstruction of existing overhead foot bridge and reuse of hunch beams and bricks into landscape space;

  • Partial demolition of platform structures;

  • Refurbishment of platforms and shelters, and

  • Backfilling of redundant rail corridor with soft and hard landscaping.

 2. Enhancement of Civic lane, including but not limited to; 

  • Replacement of existing asphalt wearing layer, with pavements and footpaths;

  • Landscaping;

  • Sculpture and Sculpture base; and

  • Lighting and street furniture.

 3. Museum Place Landscaping, including but not limited to; 

  •  New pathways;
  • Landscaping, including;

    • Reuse of footbridge hunched beams as bench space;

    • Ruse of footbridge bricks within hard landscaping; and

  • Lighting, engineering and stormwater works.

 4. Brake Block Park Landscaping, including but not limited to; 

  • Realignment of vines within the Winemakers lot;

  • Additional Pathways;

  • Lighting;

  • Relocation of benches, and

  • Minor soft landscaping.
