Tender Details
The Nanga Mai Awards celebrate and promote the educational achievements of Aboriginal students in NSW Public Schools as well as the achievements of: Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal teachers, other Departmental staff, Aboriginal community members and schools, demonstrating excellence across diverse areas.
2021 will see the Nanga Mai Awards held twice in one calendar year, as the timing of the awards is shifted so that each year's awards are presented in the same year as they are nominated.
The word Nanga Mai is an Eora word meaning to dream. The awards are held annually and attended by the NSW Department of Education senior executive team including the Secretary, Deputy Secretaries and Executive Directors from around the state. The awards are supported by the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc. and the Aboriginal Education Council, and organised by the Department’s Aboriginal Outcomes and Partnerships Directorate.
One of the department’s measures for success is an increased proportion of Aboriginal students in the top two NAPLAN bands for reading and numeracy.
