Tender Details

Sydney Trains is inviting experienced and suitably qualified organisations to tender for Sydney Trains’ requirements for repair and resealing of Broadmeadow Maintenance Centre (BMC) main waste water pits.

Sydney Trains Broadmeadow Maintenance Centre (BMC) diesel car rail maintenance facility utilises two (2) concrete waste water pits for the collection of depot waste water.

(1) The main waste pit at BMC, constructed in 1987, is approx. 3.4m x 4.0m x 4.5m deep. The pit is concrete walled with a mezzanine step that holds a steel waste engine-coolant tank at approximately half the depth. All floor waste drains of the main shed are run or are pumped to this pit, along with water seepage from the train jacking pits. Blind sumps in the bunded areas also drain into this pit along with discharge for the oil separator and other ancillary items such as compressed air tank drains.

The pit is designated a ‘confined space’ but has poor entry and rescue issues due to the need climb a permanent ladder to a mezzanine level and a second ladder to the lower pit. The pit has two hatches on the ‘roof’ of the pit, however the ‘roof’ cover is in generally in fair to poor condition and should be replaced as part of any sealing activity to provide a safe level of access and potential rescue for future maintenance activities.

(2) The Train Wash waste water pit is much smaller at less than 7000 litres and collects the train wash water and cleaning residue following a train wash cycle. The pit is showing considerable corrosion due to the acid cleaning chemical used over the years and is to be resealed. As with the main waste pit, it is a requirement to ensure the sealing integrity and thus preventing leakage of contaminated water into the surrounding ground.
