Tender Details

Transport for NSW is seeking industry feedback as part of a market interaction process for a Portable Onboard Device (POD), which is part of the Digital Systems Program. The online briefing will be held at 10:30am to 11:30am (AEST) on Tuesday 20 August 2024.

We are looking to engage with our industry partners to help inform the development of the procurement strategy and to understand potential technical solutions to consider during procurement.

The Digital Systems Program will replace current signalling and train control technology with modern, internationally proven, intelligent systems. It will help improve reliability, increase capacity and enhance customer experience on Sydney’s railways.

As part of this broader program, there is a need to design, develop and implement a solution to enable vehicles not fitted with European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 equipment to traverse the network in a way which is safe so far as is reasonably practicable (SFAIRP) with acceptable operational impact. These solutions have not yet been developed and determined for Tranche 2.

Transport for NSW is seeking feedback from organisations that have demonstrated experience delivering similar programs and technical solutions.

The Market Interaction Process aims to:

  • Inform and broadly engage with the market early about this exciting opportunity with TfNSW
  • Determine whether industry partners have developed / are developing solutions that could meet the project’s needs (including associated timeframes)
  • Gauge interest levels of potential contracting organisations
  • Understand market considerations to inform the POD procurement strategy
  • Listen to ideas and capture market expertise
  • Seek industry’s views and feedback on the proposed type of contract
