With the assistance of a Caring for our Country grant through the Australian Government’s Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, Wyong Council is currently implementing elements of the Tuggerah Lakes Estuary Management Plan (EMP). A major goal of the EMP is the re-establishment of Coastal Saltmarsh that once surrounded much of the Tuggerah Lakes system. In an effort to restore this fragile community, the EMP acted as the foundational document to give rise to the development of the Active Saltmarsh Rehabilitation Plan and the Passive Saltmarsh Rehabilitation and Management Plan. The objective of this contract is to map Coastal Saltmarsh EEC on Council land on the developed foreshore of Tuggerah Lakes utilising existing way point data from the PSRMP and integrating additional field data. The contractor will install temporary indicator pegs to demarcate the boundary of this vegetation community. The contract will also provide a current snapshot of the mowing practices around the Tuggerah Lake foreshore through measuring the extent of saltmarsh currently un-mown and mowed. These proto-figures will be used to gauge changes in mowing practices at project end-point and assist in appraising the success of Council’s community education and EMP objectives. The areas to be mapped and evaluated include: Chittaway Point, Chittaway Bay, Killarney Vale and Berkley Vale.
