Tender Details

RailCorp issues approximately 100m tickets and collects approximately $580m in fare-box revenue annually across the CityRail network.

At present RailCorp outsources the maintenance of its Automatic Ticketing System, ticket supply and cash collection activities.  Management, software development, hardware enhancements, system monitoring and reporting, contract administration and corporate ticket sales are carried out in-house.

In addition to the above RailCorp maintains an internal business unit that manages the issue of free and concessional rail travel passes to employees and others.

The objectives of RailCorp for the future Management & Maintenance of its Automatic Ticketing System across the CityRail Network are to deliver:

·         a sustainable service delivery;

·         a more efficient and effective ticketing management system;

·         upgrades to the ticketing technology software and hardware;

·         reduce ticketing queues;

·         guaranteed high levels of ticketing device availability;  and

·         reduction in the operational costs of ticketing services

RailCorp invites organisations to provide information outlining their capability in the market in relation to the requirements definition as set out in Part C of this RFI.

The Management & Maintenance of RailCorp’s Automatic Ticketing System is intended to encompass a broad range of functions.  RailCorp recognises that the necessary range of skills and resources may not be found within a single organisation.  Responses are therefore being sought from organisations/consortia who have demonstrated capability in one or more or all of the following areas, in line with the requirements of this RFI:

·           Planning & Development of potential System enhancements

·           Program/project management

·           Supply & logistics

·           Cash handling in a secure environment

·           Software/hardware technology development

·           Maintenance of mechanical & electronic equipment

·           24/7 control centre and condition monitoring capability

·           Financial benefits realisation through the provision of such services

Notwithstanding the above RailCorp and Sydney Ferries are investigating the possibility of amalgamating their cash management and maintenance requirements.

RailCorp will use the information supplied by Respondents to assist it in finalising its strategy to maintain a reliable and sustainable Ticketing System across the CityRail Network in its current, or enhanced state for up to the next 10 years (approx.).
