he National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) is an Agency within the Office of Environment & Heritage (OEH). The NPWS operates a fleet of approximately 150 heavy vehicles and 300 pieces of ancillary plant & equipment. The NPWS is required to operate their Heavy Vehicle fleet in accordance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) including adherence to maximum permissible mass and dimensions of heavy vehicles used on NSW roads.
The Heavy Vehicle National Law (NSW) was established as a National scheme for facilitating and regulating the use of heavy vehicles on public roads. The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator was established and prescribes requirements about the following:
- The standards heavy vehicles must meet when on roads

The maximum permissible mass and dimensions of heavy vehicles used on roads

Securing and restraining loads on heavy vehicles used on roads

Preventing drivers of heavy vehicles exceeding speed limits

Preventing drivers of heavy vehicles driving while fatigued.
