Tender Details

The Works include the interpretation and creation of sculptural elements as components of the interpretive works included in the redevelopment of the Upper Entry Precinct at Taronga Zoo.  The work is to be undertaken in five (5) commissioned sculpture packages to develop, fabricate and deliver one or more sculptures in the Sculpture Walk, which commence in the Outer Plaza and continue in the Inner Plaza.  Each element will build on the story of contemporary custodianship of ancestral lands.

It is intended that the sculpture walk will:

  • create a visual "Acknowledgment of Country" or "Welcome to Country" acknowledging Cammeraigal people, culture and Country and extending to broader Indigenous perspectives;
  • educate visitors about the indigenous commitment to Country and relationship to wildlife and approach to environmental sustainability;
  • Positively influence visitor behaviours and attitudes in line with Indigenous concept of "caring for Country"; and
  • Use accessible, engaging public art to evoke an emotional connection for visitors with Indigenous culture and values.

Three (3) interpretive "pole clusters" (A, B, C) are planned for holding commissioned sculpures in the Outer Plaza.  Another two "pole clusters" in the Inner Plaza (E & F) have been identified as locations for ground mounted sculptural elements.

The sculptures must stand the outdoor harsh marine air environment. The ground mounted sculptural elements in the Inner Plaza will be handled and climbed on by children.

Positions of the poles and the approximately 4 m tall poles have been determined and cannot be altered.  Commissioned sculptural elements in the Outer Plaza can only be fixed to the timber poles.
