Tender Details
Our ageing coal-fired power stations currently provide most of NSW’s electricity supply as well as the firming capacity that keeps the grid stable during peak periods such as summer heatwaves. Most of these power stations are reaching the end of their life and are due to shut in the next 10 years. At the same time, our demand for electricity is increasing as our population grows and we electrify our vehicles, homes, businesses and industry. This means NSW needs new electricity supply urgently.
The HTP involves building a new above-ground 500 kV transmission line of around 100 kilometres that will connect Bayswater to Eraring.
The HTP is one of the State’s most critical energy projects. It must be built by early 2028 to ensure energy security as our coal-fired power stations retire.
The HTP will help create a ring of 500 kV transmission infrastructure that will be the backbone of the State’s electricity grid for generations to come.
The HTP will unlock the supply of electricity from the Central-West Orana and New England REZs, allowing it to be imported to the grid via Bayswater. From here, it will be delivered to consumers in the Hunter, Sydney and Illawarra where 80% of the State’s electricity is used.
Additional information is available on the EnergyCo website:Hunter Transmission Project | EnergyCo (nsw.gov.au)
EnergyCo is commencing the procurement of contractors to design and construct the HTP and will be holding a non-mandatory Industry Briefing (‘HTP Industry Briefing’) for suitably qualified and experienced contractors.
Registering for the Industry Briefing and EOI Phase
Suitably experienced and qualified contractors with an interest in participating in the procurement process are invited to register their interest in participating in the procurement process (‘Interested Parties’).
Interested Parties must demonstrate to EnergyCo’s satisfaction that they have local or international experience in the delivery of projects of a similar scale and nature to the HTP (either as individual parties or in consortia).
Interested Parties are required to return a completed copy of the Registration of Interest Form (and associated attachments) along with an executed Confidentiality and Disclaimer Deed Poll (‘CDDP’).
EnergyCo may, in its absolute discretion, register some or all of the Interested Parties. An Interested Party becomes a ‘Registrant’ if it satisfies EnergyCo that it has an appropriate level of experience in delivery of high voltage transmission lines and/or substations.
Registrants will be invited to attend the Industry Briefing and provided with access to the EOI Invitation.
Should your organisation have experience in delivering large-scale transmission line or substation projects, you are encouraged to attend the HTP Industry Briefing.
Only contractors that have previous experience in delivering large-scale transmission line and/or substation projects will be provided the MS Teams link for the HTP Industry Briefing.
Registration of Interest Form
To be considered for the EOI Phase and to register interest to attend the non-mandatory HTP Industry Briefing, an Interested Party must return a completed copy of the attached Registration of Interest Form (and associated attachments) along with an executed Confidentiality and Disclaimer Deed Poll by email to EnergyCo’s Contact Offer at hunter.transmission@energyco.nsw.gov.au.
Closing Date for Registrations to participate in the EOI is 3:00pm AEST (Sydney) on 7 June 2024. Note: The HTP Industry Briefing will be held by EnergyCo on 12 June 2024. To register to attend the HTP Industry Briefing, this form must be submitted by 3:00pm on 7 June 2024 AEST.
