STATEMENT OF REQUIREMENT

Introduction

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is dedicated to the preservation of the natural spaces within NSW and providing the people of NSW with recreational opportunities in these spaces. To fulfil the second requirement requires the existence of a road and trail network to provide access into these natural spaces. A central, and critical, aspect in the delivery of this objective is the management of a road and trail network that complies with current industry standards and best practice. This involves the routine maintenance of the existing roads system, periodic assessment of the risks that our systems pose to road users and continued upgrading of the road systems to further reduce the risk to road users.

This study is targeting risks that our roads pose to users of our roads. The outcomes of the study will be used to identify:

Improvement to road management practices

New works programs that can be initiated to reduce risk

?

Changes in emphasis and priorities to existing programs to better manage risk

?

Maintenance procedures that can be changed to meet road users’ needs.
