Tender Details

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) to gather industry comments/feedback on reusable surgical/theatre/hospital gowns (also used in some wards) that are made of reusable coated fabric.  Such products may be informally described as “barrier gowns”. The information received in response to this RFI will allow HSS Linen Services to identify opportunities for development of a product offering to NSW Hospitals of reusable gowns (where considered suitable). It is envisaged that the gowns will be technically classified as ‘impermeable/impervious’ or ‘fluid resistant’ and/or provide some level of protection against biological hazardous substances, blood and airborne pathogens; information pertaining to all gowns of a similar capacity is invited.

The RFI proposes compliance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards: ANSI/AAMI ST65:2008 and ANSI/AAMI PB70:2003/(R)2009, or equivalent European Union standards.  Other ISO or alternative standard may be entertained, providing full information regarding compliance and testing is provided.

The RFI also proposes Independent Hydrostatic and Bacteriophage testing in accordance with:

·         American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) AATCC Test Method 42-2007 Water Resistance: Impact Penetration Test (Editorial Revision 2009)

·         AATCC Test Method 127-2008 Water Resistance:  Hydrostatic Pressure Test or equivalents.

·         American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F1670 - 08 Standard Test Method for Resistance of Materials Used in Protective Clothing to Penetration by Synthetic Blood – Bacteriophage Phi-X174 test or equivalents.

Further, the RFI seeks information on garment tracking systems or methodologies (e.g. RFID, barcodes, etc) that will allow HSS Linen Services to track, and count washes, and record information to ensure garment efficacy throughout its life cycle.
