The Park (formerly Blacktown Olympic Park) is the premier sporting precinct in Western Sydney and is currently renaming and rebranding itself to reflect its current status. It is situated within the Western Sydney Parklands, west of Blacktown’s CBD. The Park was originally developed as a playing and training venue for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, since that time has evolved to comprise of a range of sporting facilities including:
· AFL/Cricket Precinct – 2 x high quality Ovals; Oval 1 within a 10,000 capacity stadium with a 1500 seat grandstand, administration space and function facilities and Oval 2 with separate amenities block. The Precinct also contains an Indoor Cricket Centre with 5 indoor & 5 outdoor synthetics lanes & 16 turf lanes.
· Athletics Precinct - this world-class facility has a mondo track and caters for the full array of track and field events including steeplechase, javelin, long jump, high jump, pole vault, triple jump, shot-put and discus
· Baseball Precinct - three international standard, full size diamonds , associated building and stadium infrastructure, and extensive training equipment
· Softball Precinct - Rated as the best softball facility in Australia and one of the best in the world
· International Goalkeepers Academy - Led by former International Goalkeeper Jim Fraser, the International Goalkeepers Academy offers specialised programs for goalkeepers of all ages and skill levels.
· Soccer - soccer field that is ideal for training, development camps and competition
The current Park master plan was developed in 2002, updated in 2004 and is due for review. Prior to a commencing this EOI process to engage a suitability qualified master planner, a workshop was conducted with the current BVM Board and BVM staff to explore the values and vision of BVM for the Park. This document is attached along with the EOI.
