The former Grantham Poultry Research Station site was purchased by Council from the Department of Agriculture in 2003. It has an area of approximately 4.9 hectares (excluding adjoining Crown Reserves). The existing improvements include the Administration Building, Melrose, Drumtochty and The Feed Shed.
The site is zoned 6(a) Public Recreation and is listed as a scheduled Heritage Item on Blacktown City Council Local Environmental Plan, and is included on the State Heritage Register as an item of state heritage significance.
In 2004, Council accepted a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for the site, which guides the conservation and management of the heritage assets on the site.
It is proposed that a phased redevelopment of the site will create the Grantham Heritage Parkland, and to date there has been significant restoration and refurbishment works of the Administration Building, which is occupied primarily by Blacktown Family Day Care Administration Offices. Council will also operate a Sustainability Centre from the building. A meeting space will also be available for casual users.
