Tender Details
The city of Blacktown is situated approximately 35km from Sydney on the Cumberland Plain in the heart of Western Sydney bounded by the Local Government Areas (LGA's) of Penrith; Parramatta; Holroyd; Hawkesbury and Baulkham Hills and occupying an area of 246.9 sq kilometres.
The site and surrounding reserve will form a signature element of the city and will strongly reference the showground redevelopment. The site is a central view point and Blacktown City Council looks forward to designs that are distinctly visible in height from Third Ave, Balmoral St, Richmond Rd, the Showground, the railway station concourse and the Main Western and Richmond rail lines.
Sensitivity to the site as a place of cultural meaning and as a community environment should inform the artwork/s themes with investigations into Blacktown’s culture, community, social history or environment considered. See Contemporary Blacktown above.
Art works that are innovative, contemporary and original could include, but are not limited to:
· lighting;
· stand alone or integrated structure/s;
· feature elements including sound scapes or sound sculptures
· works that change with time and weather.
Artists should consider the use of specialist design companies with expertise for example in lighting artworks or other design features like electricity or water. The artist may choose to submit a proposal in conjunction with an appropriately experienced design firm or to nominate/describe how this aspect of the project will be managed.
