Tender Details

Replacement of Spillway Gate at the Wentworth Falls Lake Dam, Sinclair Crescent, Wentworth Falls.

The existing Gate Valve was installed as part of the construction of the current Spillway and Dam Wall upgrade works completed in 1991.  It is understood that the existing Gate Valve is a Batescrew 900mm diameter system.  The intent of the Gate Valve is to allow management of water levels within the Dam in the event of an emergency, for maintenance purposes or to proactively lower water levels if a storm or high level rainfall event is anticipated.

It is understood that the existing Gate Valve has never been opened since its commissioning in 1991.  In late 2013 it was noted during routine inspections that the spindle to the Gate Valve had rusted through and was no longer connected.  Further review and advice also indicates that it is likely that the seal to the Gate has deteriorated to a point where it would be expected to be fused shut.  Initial enquiries were made with the original manufacturer Batescrew about a replacement spindle and potentially the whole Gate Valve unit however their advice is that due to its current location and subsequent issues with being constantly submerged, access for manual operation & access for general maintenance further consideration should be given on options to totally replace this existing asset.
