The Art Gallery of NSW is a significant cultural institution and a major tourism destination for local, interstate, and international visitors. The Gallery is open to the public 7 days a week. The Gallery is only closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
The Art Gallery of New South Wales has now concluded its expansion with its new site “North Building” that opened in December 2022. Visitor numbers are expected to continue to increase supported by a wide range of diverse Art offerings and experiences.
The South Building campus is working on an upgrading program to align the campus facilities and business support functions. The Lower level 1 staff accommodation project is the refurbishment/fit out of the old library spaces to provide office, amenities, and light workshop accommodation for Gallery staff.
The Gallery is seeking a principal contractor to undertake the design and construction.
The tender process has been divided into two stages:
Stage 1: EOI – Expression of Interest/Application
Stage 2: Selected Request for Tender
This EOI is stage 1 of the process interested suppliers are invited to submit an application that will be assessed to ensure you meet the mandatory criteria. Successful suppliers will then be invited to the selective Request for tender stage once this stage is closed. The key timelines for Stage 1 are as follows:

Interested suppliers must complete the attached application form and submit back via e-tender by the closing date.
The mandatory criteria will be as follows:
- Suppliers will need to be on the NSW Government Construction Scheme - SCM1461 Contractor
- Must have previous construction project experience at the Art Gallery of NSW and/or a similar Cultural Institution (Museums, Art Galleries, Theatres and Public Libraries). Project must be since 2018 and greater than $1,000,000 in value (noting this excludes new builds).
- Must have Heritage construction project experience Project must be since 2018 and greater than $1,000,000 in value.
