Sydney Metro requires a suitably qualified Service Provider to provide the necessary resources, skills and expertise to complete the conservation works on the Barangaroo Boat.
The remains of a clinker-built timber vessel were discovered during excavations for the Sydney Metro Barangaroo Station box in September 2018.
Constructed from Australian timbers, and predating 1860, the vessel has been described as one of the earliest non-Indigenous vessels to be uncovered during archaeological investigations in Australia. The vessel is of state and possibly national heritage significance.
Sydney Metro has undertaken Stage 1 and 2A of the conservation works of timbers from the vessel and a report on these works will be be made available Currently, Sydney Metro requires a suitably qualified Service Provider to provide the necessary resources, skills and expertise to complete the conservation works on the Barangaroo Boat.
The Service Provider may also be required to supply a freeze dryer as part of the conservation activities.
