The NSW Government has initiated an open tender process to contract an independent Agriculture Commissioner.
The Commissioner will:
•Provide expert, independent strategic advice to Government about issues relating to strategic agricultural land use,
•Chair and evaluate a pilot Farm Practices Panel,
•Support NSW Department of Primary Industries to deliver projects, including whole-of-government projects aimed at strategically addressing land use conflict issues,
•Provide briefings to the Minister, and Parliament if required, and
•Work with the incoming Net Zero Commission on agricultural land use issues.
The Department of Primary Industries will provide Secretariat support to the Commissioner and will enable communication channels and broader relationships between the Minister for Agriculture and relevant stakeholders in NSW. The Commissioner will consult broadly across government agencies, subject matter experts and stakeholders to inform advice, reviews and recommendations.
The content of the Commissioner’s reports, recommendations and advice will not be subject to the control or direction of the Minister or Government.
The Commissioner will require extensive high-level professional and technical experience and knowledge related to land use conflict issues related to farming, farming practices and agricultural land use, and critical analysis of complex strategic policy issues and formulation of effective advice. The Commissioner will require strong stakeholder engagement and project management skills. A current CV is required to be provided by key personnel.
