Tender Details

The Department of Transport NSW, known as Transport for NSW (TfNSW), serves as the governing body for public transport services across New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Its scope encompasses extensive services, including rail, bus networks, road and maritime transport, ferry operations, and integrated transport solutions.

In NSW, commuters rely on the versatile Opal Card, a prepaid travel card that allows for easy top-ups and swift access to various modes of transportation. Alongside this, contactless payments via debit or credit cards have further streamlined the travel experience.

Additionally, a demand exists for disposable paper Opal tickets tailored for one-time use. These paper tickets cater to both local and international commuters, as well as individuals without smartphone capabilities. This market-sounding initiative is focused explicitly on the Disposable Opal Paper Tickets segment.

The disposable Opal paper tickets must adhere to strict quality and compliance standards to ensure optimal performance and safety for users. These specifications include material composition, ink cohesion, paper storage conditions, traceability, contactless chip requirements, and other various requirements.

The Single Trip Tickets, or Disposable Opal Cards, are intended for printing using direct thermal technology. The tickets are pre-printed with TfNSW logo, ABN number and other design details. Only one side of the ticket is printable and coated with thermal material. The Single trip ticket is only usable on the day of encoding and printing and can be tapped on and off a maximum 50 times after being acquired by a customer from an SSM. The Single Trip Tickets must align with ISO/CEI 15457-1:2008 standards.

To review the requirements in full participants will need to sign the Transport for NSW deed of confidentiality. Once signed, TfNSW can provide:

• Detailed specifications that define the manufacturing standard for the Disposable Opal Cards issued from Astreo and Galexio SSM devices.

• Detailed specifications that outline the physical specifications required for Ultralight C cards to ensure compatibility with the IMS2 thermal printer and encoder utilised by Astreo and Galexio Self Service Machines (SSMs) for issuing Disposable Opal Cards.
