Tender Details
The Cancer Institute NSW is a NSW Government agency charged with substantially improving cancer control through the NSW Cancer Plan (the Plan).
This will be achieved by:
- reducing the incidence of cancer in the community
- increasing the survival rate for people diagnosed with cancer
- improving the quality of life of people diagnosed and their carers
- providing a source of expertise on cancer control for the Government, health service providers, medical researchers and the general community.
A major program of the NSW Cancer Plan involves the provision of support services to people who smoke, to contribute to a reduction in the prevalence of smoking in NSW. Under the NSW Tobacco Strategy, the Institute has primary responsibility for the management of smoking cessation services in NSW, including the Quitline and iCanQuit.com.au.
Aboriginal Quitline
The Quitline includes a service specifically for Aboriginal people in NSW and ACT, providing tailored and culturally sensitive advice to callers. NSW/ACT Aboriginal Quitline offers a free call-back service, resources, support for family and friends, and information for health professionals. Consumers can call the Quitline (on 13 7848) directly to access NSW/ACT Aboriginal Quitline, or register for a free call via the iCanQuit website.
Koori Quitline Facebook page
The ‘Koori Quitline’ Facebook page was established in November 2015 as a closed page, as part of a broader social marketing tobacco control campaign to reach Aboriginal people. The page was opened in October 2017 and has been successful in building an engaged audience. The key objectives of the page are to:
• promote the Aboriginal Quitline service, and
• to share relevant and engaging information that contributes to changing behaviours around smoking.
